This lovely Panhard et Levassor X46 was originally imported to the UK in 1924 as a bare chassis and still carries its original Salmons and Sons Landaulette body. The bonnet looks like a relatively recent fabrication but it fits beautifully and looks just fine. The paint is really good with only a couple of small dents and scratches on the wings and the radiator is in excellent condition with no dents in the shell.
As for the interior the driver's compartment is very comfortable with lots of room, comfortable seats and easy access from the left side. Gear and handbrake controls are on the right hand and work well and the dash has a working speedometer and clock as well as a Lucas switch panel. The rear compartment is delightful with new carpets, lots of space and large, spring loaded windows that slide easily and lock in any position.
The matching numbers 3.2 litre sleeve valve engine has had a dynamo fitted but is otherwise stock. It starts easily, pulls well and the upside down shift pattern on the 4-speed gearbox is easy to come to terms with. A new clutch has recently been fitted, a flexible coupling connects the transmission to the torque tube and back axle. The 4-wheel rod brakes are in good condition and function as they should. The chassis and suspension is also in very good condition and the car drives nicely on the road.
