I have been commissioned to sell this unique, in every sense of the word, 1912 SCAP Type A. Just a few Société de Construction Automobile Parisienne cars have survived, about half a dozen cyclecars of the 1920s and two SCAP type A. This one being the only one still sporting its original 4 seat Bargin et Beckerich tourer body and being matching numbers (the number 8488 is stamped on the chassis, engine crankcase, camshaft, timing gears, inlet manifold, etc.).
The car was laid up in the 1970s but has recently undergone a comprehensive renovation and is now road registered and ready for anything. The Ballot 2.2 Litre, 4 cylinder, engine has been completely restored with re-profiled camshaft, new valve springs, etc.. The rest of the drivetrain has been thoroughly overhauled and recent work includes, but is not limited to, new clutch, restored magneto, fuel system clean, rebuilt wheels and rebuilt front suspension & steering.
During the recent work the original body has been left alone as much as possible and the old paint has been retained, still showing the lines of the brush. New running boards have been made as well as a beautiful new roof and tonneau and the seats have been reupholstered in leather. There is new windscreen glass as well.
At some time in the 60s the acetylene lamps were converted to take electric inserts, a battery was fitted as well as a regulator, a dynamo and indicators. There is no electric starter but the car starts easily by handle.
No expense was spared during the recent work on this beautiful car but the owner has other projects to concentrate on and has decided to let it go. Please call if you have any questions or would like to see more detailed photographs. The car is located in Luxembourg.
